Transforming the Lives of Low-Income Women with Cancer

Our vision is that all low-income women with cancer achieve the highest attainable health during their cancer journey. We do this by providing free access to compassionate, integrative care with our network of licensed and certified volunteer practitioners.

Since 1991, the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic has been improving health outcomes and quality of life for San Francisco Bay Area low-income, under-served, and immigrant women with cancer.

“There are not words enough to describe what CMC has done for me these last almost 17 years, since I was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer. I would not have had the quality and extra years of life had it not been for the dedicated, talented, and giving staff and practitioners of CMC. Many thanks.”

What is Integrative Care?

Integrative care nurtures health and inspires well-being, increasing the survival rates for women with cancer. It combines effective and safe complementary therapies with standard medical treatment. Integrating complementary therapies in the cancer treatment and recovery process has been shown to help reduce pain, heal the immune system, reduce the harmful effects of chronic stress and trauma, and build resilience.

ACUPUNCTURE

Eases nausea, fatigue, and anxiety. Strengthens the weakened immune system that accompanies cancer treatment.

Massage & Bodywork

Help with nausea and lymphedema relief, as well as pain reduction.

Energy Work

Activates the body’s natural healing process, reduces anxiety, chronic pain, and depression.

Movement Therapy

Improves coping with cancer symptoms and appreciation of self and body.

Nutrition Education

Teaches how to maintain body weight and strength and decrease treatment side effects.

Homeopathy & Herbs

Provide some relief from the side effects of conventional cancer treatments and improve wellbeing.

Support Services

Provides translators and referrals to community partners for food and other resources.
